Ballot (and vote) harvesting and the Rolling Stones midterm: The Amiable Skeptics featuring Adam Baldwin!

Republicans definitely didn’t get what they want from the midterms, but did they get what they need? “I’m very optimistic about the coming new Congress,” Adam Baldwin declares, and with it the ability to check Joe Biden and progressive Democrats. It also opens opportunities to get past media blockades and get real investigations into “Biden and the laptop, and all that other stuff, all the corruption. … Let’s get to the truth,” Adam urges, an opportunity opened up by the GOP’s win in taking control of the House.

Welcome back to my VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

In fact, House Republicans have already begun to plan for that level of transparency:

Republicans also need to learn some hard lessons from this cycle, Adam and I agree. “How does the GOP compete against the machines in the cities while they’re going to have to have a widespread network of competing, ballot harvesting, or what do they call it? Assistance programs,” Adam asks. Republicans need to set up competing field efforts to eliminate the Democrats’ advantages, and he wonders whether Republicans have the infrastructure to do it — and the commitment.

“There’s two ways you can go with this,” I reply. “One is, you can change the laws to get rid of ballot harvesting, which is really what should happen. Or,” I continue, ” use all the means at your disposal to get those votes.” Just because Republicans don’t like mail-in balloting and harvesting doesn’t mean they should ignore those while they remain legal in certain state. “Reality doesn’t care if you don’t believe in it,” I quip.

Enjoy this episode of our video series, and be sure to add to the debate in the comments. And stay tuned for our next episode which will drop on Monday, in which Adam and I discuss our steak-dinner bet on 2024.
