Inflation, J6 committee stunts, and Biden's oil bungling: The Amiable Skeptics featuring Adam Baldwin

What was the big news yesterday? To read the media coverage, it was the January 6 committee hearing and a stunt subpoena of Donald Trump. For everyone else, it was roaring inflation, which led to a sneering CNN headline that “voters may care more about the cost of french fries than the January 6 panel.” It reveals the sideshow as nothing more than a distraction, my friend Adam Baldwin argues in today’s episode. “It’s really just another show trial,” Adam says, and “Liz Cheney’s political swan song.” Democrats, Adam argues, “are desperate to keep [Trump] on the ballot somehow,” but it’s not working — and won’t.

Welcome back to my VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

I point out that the timing of this hearing, and especially the absurd subpoena stunt, couldn’t possibly be more transparently political. “When they announced the hearing for today, October 13,” I point out,”just three and a half weeks before Election Day, clearly that was supposed to be sort of a last hurrah for the midterms.”

Adam replied, “Well, they’ve already convicted Trump, and there’s really no point in them even holding these hearings. “Except,” he adds, “for it to be a show trial and to drop it in October in an October Surprise.”

We also discuss the meaning and reasons for the inflation reports this week, and also discuss the manner in which Biden has fumbled energy policy, the Saudis, and strategic issues around national security. Enjoy it, and join the debate in the comments!
