“I’ve now received so many death threats,” Harry Potter creator and author J.K. Rowling tweeted this morning, “I could paper the house with them.” Despite having been doxxed by trans activists angered over Rowling’s position on “women’s sex-based rights,” Rowling refuses to remain silent with her criticisms of the trans movement. That apparently prompted a doxxing, which Rowling revealed this morning:

Last Friday, my family’s address was posted on Twitter by three activist actors who took pictures of themselves in front of our house, carefully positioning themselves to ensure that our address was visible. 1/8

Rowling told her followers that she’s not going to suddenly move or remain silent, as she has the resources to protect herself. Instead, Rowling asked people to consider how radical activists have put other women in danger using the same tactics in attempts to bully them into silence. In other words, this isn’t an isolated incident but instead an intimidation campaign:

but who’ve contacted me to relate their experiences, have been subject to campaigns of intimidation which range from being hounded on social media, the targeting of their employers, all the way up to doxing and direct threats of violence, including rape. 5/8

I have to assume that @IAmGeorgiaFrost, @hollywstars and @Richard_Energy_ thought doxxing me would intimidate me out of speaking up for women’s sex-based rights. They should have reflected on the fact that 7/8

“Perhaps — and I’m just throwing this out there,” Rowling concludes, “the best way to prove your movement isn’t a threat to women, is to stop stalking, harassing, and threatening us.” Yes, that certainly could be one strategy to make women feel more comfortable with their movement, but … radical trans activists aren’t terribly interested in engagement. They want surrender and submission, and doxxing their critics is an acknowledgment of that fact. And, of course, that they don’t have a good argument in the first place.

Christian Toto points out the irony involved in targeting Rowling, who’d bent over backwards in virtue-signaling to the LGBTQ community in the Harry Potter series:

The “Harry Potter” author earned oodles of praise, and positive press, for her literary canon and progressive politics. She bashed Trump, retconned her own saga to make it more inclusive and enjoyed an exalted place in pop culture.

Then Rowling shared her disagreements with part of the trans movement’s agenda, and the same cultural forces that cheered her every utterance turned on her.

Hard.

Now, she’s not even welcome at HBO Max’s “Harry Potter” reunion special., and the actors who skyrocketed to fame from the film franchise don’t have her back. Major web sites like Yahoo! suggest the “Harry Potter” books have been permanently stained by her opinions.

And it just got worse.

That’s a curiosity on its own. The Harry Potter franchise, literary and cinematic, is one of the most lucrative in history. It literally created the careers of its younger stars and introduced its older stars to new audiences. Without Rowling, none of it would exist. And yet, while Rowling isn’t being outright erased (yet) from its history, she’s effectively exiled from her own creation in this HBO special:

HBO Max announced Tuesday that original stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint and the extended cast members will reunite for the first time for Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which debuts on Jan. 1, 2022.

The special will be a retrospective, focusing on the creation of the first film from 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, in honor of the 20th anniversary.

Harry Potter creator and author Rowling, 56, will not make a personal appearance in any new content for the special, a source close to the production confirms to PEOPLE, however she will be shown in archival footage throughout. Her name was noticeably not listed in the teaser for the highly anticipated special.

To call this absurd is to overlook the malice in such a snub. It’s the kind of malice one can expect from totalitarian movements and absolutists, but those are the elements that creative industries should oppose rather than enable. Ironically, it fell to actor playing the arch-villain Voldemort to point this out:

Actor Ralph Fiennes, who played Lord Voldemort in the Potter franchise, told the U.K.’s The Telegraph back in March that he personally feels the “level of hatred” aimed at Rowling is uncalled for.

“I can’t understand the vitriol directed at her. I can understand the heat of an argument, but I find this age of accusation and the need to condemn irrational,” said Fiennes at the time. “I find the level of hatred that people express about views that differ from theirs, and the violence of language towards others, disturbing.”

Indeed. And that speaks volumes not just about the activists, but about the participants in this HBO special and the industry that cooperates in intimidation campaigns … even against those who put billions of dollars into its pockets. Shameful.
