Bernie: Come on, does anyone really believe Hillary's whining any more?

Give Hillary Clinton this much credit — she has come up with new excuses for her massive 2016 faceplant against Donald Trump. MSNBC host Chris Hayes digs up a beaut in an excerpt from What Happened, which is that Bernie Sanders just copied her agenda and split the party in the primaries. Hillary relates an anecdote from the film There’s Something About Mary to explain how Bernie ran a flim-flam on Democrats.

Earlier this week, Sanders told reporters that he’d rather “look forward” than rehash 2016. This time, he tackles Hillary’s accusation directly, saying “Does anybody really believe that?”

Better question: Did anyone believe any of her excuses before? Does anyone really believe anything Hillary has to say at all? Don’t forget that Hillary launched her previous book tour in 2014 by claiming that she and Bill were “dead broke” coming out of the White House … when she and Bill were buying a pretty sweet home in Chappaqua and penning memoirs for multi-million-dollar advances. Hillary later tried to back away from those comments, but then ended up doubling down by claiming that nine-figure wealth was not “truly well off.” Also, she tried to differentiate herself from the Mitt Romneys of the world by insisting she had built up that modest nest egg “by dint of hard work,” which meant … speeches, books, and running a “charity” that was clearly a political slush fund.

So no, no one really believes it, because no one really believes anything Hillary Clinton has to say. That’s why she lost in 2016, why she fumbled her book tour in 2014, and why she lost the nomination to Barack Obama in 2008. No one within the Democratic Party seems willing to tell her the obvious, which is that she’s terrible at this.

As Politico noted yesterday, they’re mostly hoping she leaves on her own, and she’s facing a public that may finally be permanently sick of her:

Democratic operatives can’t stand the thought of her picking the scabs of 2016, again — the Bernie Sanders divide, the Jim Comey complaints, the casting blame on Barack Obama for not speaking out more on Russia. Alums of her Brooklyn headquarters who were miserable even when they thought she was winning tend to greet the topic with, “Oh, God,” “I can’t handle it,” and “the final torture.” …

But with a new NBC News poll showing her approval rating at 30 percent, the lowest recorded for her, Clinton kicks it off on Tuesday with a signing at the Union Square Barnes & Noble in New York. She’ll keep it going all the way through December, all across the country.

“Maybe at the worst possible time, as we are fighting some of the most high-stakes policy and institutional battles we may ever see, at a time when we’re trying to bring the party together so we can all move the party forward — stronger, stronger together,” said Rep. Jared Huffman, a Democrat who represents a Northern California district. “She’s got every right to tell her story. Who am I to say she shouldn’t, or how she should tell it? But it is difficult for some of us, even like myself who’ve supported her, to play out all these media cycles about the blame game, and the excuses.” …

“There is a collective groan,” he said, “whenever there’s another news cycle about this.”

Hey, everyone else tried to warn Democrats about Hillary in 2015. They knew what a terrible candidate she was, and Democrats all fell into line anyway, with the DNC doing its best to rescue her from Bernie Sanders. Shouldn’t that have been the first clue? Quite frankly, they’ve got this coming to them.
