Dunham: My abortion comment was from my "delusional girl" persona, you know

Clown nose on … clown nose off. After commenting in a podcast that she wished she’d had the opportunity to have an abortion, Lena Dunham sorta-kinda apologized on Instagram for her “distasteful joke” last night. Her explanation? She was inhabiting a character — a “delusional girl” character — not speaking as herself:

I truly hope a distasteful joke on my part won’t diminish the amazing work of all the women who participated. My words were spoken from a sort of “delusional girl” persona I often inhabit, a girl who careens between wisdom and ignorance (that’s what my TV show is too) and it didn’t translate. That’s my fault. I would never, ever intentionally trivialize the emotional and physical challenges of terminating a pregnancy.

Well, except for the fact that she just did, “delusional girl” character or not. That’s the beauty of the invisible “clown nose,” worn by more talented comedians like Jon Stewart. They want their comedy to be taken seriously right up until they screw up, at which point they get to say Hey, it’s comedy, lighten up! That still negates Dunham’s contention in this semi-apology. Turning abortion into a joke in order to strip it of “emotional and physical” implications was exactly the point of Dunham’s schtick.

It takes a while, but Dunham does get around to apologizing … somewhat:

I know plenty of people will never like a thing that leaves my lips, mea culpas or no, but this apology is for the women who have placed their trust in me.

It’s an apology for embarrassing her fans more than for the content of her podcast. It’s not even a “sorry if you’re offended” non-apology, but at least it contains the recognition that her “joke” was “distasteful,” if you buy the notion that Dunham had the clown nose on at all. Here’s a question from her Instagram comments that seems pertinent to that point:

I’m so tired of your false ‘delusional girl’ whatever you think you have going on. When a person says enough idiotic things, it becomes clear that person is simply an idiot.

Dunham concludes by announcing that she’s putting some money into the jars of pro-abortion groups. In related news, Phelim McAleer is also reporting on the finances of the abortion industry, and a Senate report that details their profit from the sale of baby parts — a report that the media hasn’t seen fit to cover:

Matching up documents and invoices the Committee found just how one $15 an hour “technician” spent an hour of his time in early summer 2014.

“For Example on one day in June 2014, the ABR technician obtained a 20 week old fetes at a [Planned Parenthood] clinic. From that one fetus, ABR sold its brain to one customer for $325; both of its eyes for $325 each ($650 total) to a second customer, a portion of its liver for $325 to a third customer; its thymus and for $325 and another portion of liver to a fourth customer; and its lung for $325 to a fifth customer. These fees are merely the service fees for the specimens themselves; ABR separately charged each customer for shipping, disease, screening, cleaning and freezing, as applicable. So from that single fetus for which ABR paid a mere $60, ABR charged its customers a total of $2,275 for tissue specimens, plus additional charges for shipping and disease screening.” …

The Senate report is an astonishing document. Once they get through the historical context it becomes a page-turning account of the highly profitable business of selling baby parts in the United States. And just like Kermit Gosnell, who was allowed to kill for years, everyone turned a blind eye to the baby selling even though hundreds, perhaps thousands, of professionals were part of the business transactions. These companies had contracts with Planned Parenthood and other abortion clinics. These contracts were revised and altered by lawyers and accountants – all of whom presumably knew that the law explicitly forbids any profiteering from the sales of any body parts of anyone.

And the bills were all paid. If you want some shocking reading, go to the Senate Report and flick forward to the exhibits and there you can see just a sample of the thousands of invoices that were going back and forth in the baby parts business. They are normal invoices complete with the usual terms of payment. You’ve seen it before on every invoice you’ve ever seen – the company must be paid within 30 days of the invoice date and then the stern warning: “Accounts not paid within 30 days of invoice are subject to a 1.5 percent monthly finance charge.” It is all very normal – and boring – everyone has their account number and their invoice number and then you look at what is actually detailed in the invoices – the “liver 2nd trimester,” “brain 2nd trimester,” the “Eyes (2) 2nd trimester.” Did anyone in accounts payable register any objection to payment?

Incidentally, it costs $120 to send an aborted baby’s brain through FedEx Priority Overnight.

That’s why it takes a “delusional girl” or guy to keep supporting the abortion industry and its lies that abortions only involve undifferentiated “clumps of cells.” The abortionists know better. Dunham clearly does not.
