“The Koch brothers are trying to buy America,” says the man who rented out the Senate to Tom Steyer. Harry Reid took to the Senate floor to reprise his losing strategy of Kochsteria not just to blast the Kochs, but to rip Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for conducting an interview and allowing David and Charles Koch to talk about their upbringing, values, and purpose in engaging in politics — arguably a much needed and long overdue opportunity, given Reid’s paranoid rantings from the Senate floor in 2014 especially.
Let’s start with the interview, which is well done but not particularly exceptional in terms of morning-show profiles of activists of all stripes:
This was so horrible to the soon-to-be-retired Reid that he nominated Joe and Mika to be the next debate moderators for the GOP:
“That’s very good. Wow. Those were some really tough questions asked by the host of ‘Morning Joe.’ That’s sufficient journalism,” Reid said from the Senate floor.
“Those questions are so easy, they may even qualify them to moderate the next Republican presidential debate.”
The Kochs largely ignored Reid in 2014. Joe Scarborough prefers to fight:
Guess you're still bitter because your dumb strategy to focus so much on the Kochs cost Democrats the majority #Duh https://t.co/OJhlzYUnk9

Hey Harry, sorry I can't pull off that Joseph McCarthy routine as good as you hatefully calling people un-American. https://t.co/OJhlzYUnk9

Say, when does Reid start talking about all of the softball coverage that Steyer and Michael Bloomberg get for their billionaire activism in politics? They’re doing exactly what the Kochs are doing, using their resources to engage in politics. It’s just that with leaders like Harry Reid on their side, they’re bigger failures at it than the Kochs … which, one suspects, is what is really eating Reid up from the inside out. We’re just fourteen months from having the most despicable politician in Washington DC retire for good, and that moment can’t come too soon.
