Hillary: Questions about my e-mail are "beyond the pale"

Old and busted: Most transparent administration ever! New hotness: Reviewing work-related e-mails hidden from Congress and several courts adjudicating FOIA requests is “beyond the pale.” NBC’s Today show caught up with Hillary Clinton at a town hall in New Hampshire, where the presumed Democratic frontrunner is still telling people that the probe into her e-mail is still just a partisan witch hunt:

So much for a show of contrition and humility, eh?

Give NBC’s Savannah Guthrie credit, though, for not just leaving it at that. She asks Hillary, “Do you get how bad this looks?” Hillary’s response: Hey, I’m the most transparent government official “in American history“! It’s just bad form to actually check up on it, apparently:

Speaking of contrition and humility, even some in Hillary’s camp think she might want to ixnay on the artisan-pay itch-hunt-way commentary. According to author Edward Klein*, one legal adviser to the Clintons is “tearing my hair out” over her indirect slams against FBI investigators, and says she’d better start lawyering up:

One of the Clintons’ oldest and most trusted legal advisers has urged Hillary to hire a criminal defense attorney to represent her in case she’s indicted formishandling classified documents on her private e-mail server and for lying under oath.

The adviser, who has been a Clinton confidant for more than 30 years, laid out his concerns about Hillary’s legal exposure in a wide-ranging interview.

“This e-mail thing is spiraling out of control,” he said. “To paraphrase John Dean of Watergate fame, it’s a cancer on her candidacy.

“Frankly,” he continued, “I am used to my advice on legal matters being taken very seriously and acted upon by the Clintons. I’ve told them repeatedly that this FBI e-mail investigation could go in a very dangerous direction very quickly.

“I think Bill takes the matter seriously. But Hillary is still acting as though it’s a political smear job by right-wing zealots.”

Nonsense. Such talk amounts to lèse-majesté, non? At the very least, it’s beyond the pale.
