As expected, Mitt Romney took the high road on Fox News Sunday regarding MSNBC’s attack on his family and Melissa Harris-Perry’s apology – but not without a bit of scolding from both Romney and Fox News anchor Chris Wallace.  Romney told Wallace that “I’ve made plenty of mistakes myself,” and that “I’m going to move on from that.” In the future, Romney advised, MSNBC should keep families out of the line of fire:

Romney accepted Harris-Perry’s apology, saying, “The folks at MSNBC made a big mistake and they’ve apologized for it, and that’s all you can ask for. I’m going to move on from that; I’m sure they want to move on from it. Look, I’ve made plenty of mistakes myself and they’ve apologized for this and I think we can go on from there.”

The former presidential candidate added that children should be off limits from political attacks. “If you get in the political game, you can expect incoming. But children – that’s beyond the line. And I think they understand that and feel that as well. I think it’s a heartfelt apology and I think for that reason, we hold no ill will whatsoever.”

Wallace pressed Romney on it a bit further, noting that Harris-Perry joined in the laughter in the original segment and speculated on what it would be like if Romney found himself related to Kanye West. Romney didn’t take the bait, responding that he considered Harris-Perry’s apology to be “heartfelt,” and that he “didn’t really have any comment on those [remarks].”
