Video: "Forward" means continually going backward

Looks like Barack Obama’s new campaign slogan will be incredibly popular … with his opponents.  American Crossroads launched a new ad yesterday titled “Backward,”explaining that economic progress has moved in that direction rather than forward for the last three years.  More people end up on food stamps, more people drop out of the work force, and the only thing moving forward is … well, watch the clip:

One point struck me about this ad, which was the music.  Normally, you’d expect to hear either a dirge or dramatic, bombastic music.  Instead, this uses a wistful, major-key tune that gives it an almost surreal effect while using the reversed video.  It’s actually pretty effective.

So why did Team Obama pick “Forward” as its slogan?  Two-time Pulitzer winner Michael Ramirez explains it perfectly in his latest editorial cartoon for Investors Business Daily:

Also, be sure to check out Ramirez’ terrific collection of his works: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion, which covers the entire breadth of Ramirez’ career, and it gives fascinating look at political history.  Read my review here, and watch my interviews with Ramirez here and here.  And don’t forget to check out the entire Investors.com site, which has now incorporated all of the former IBD Editorials, while individual investors still exist.
