TEMS: Week in Review, NJ fundraiser update to help find Marizela Perez

Today, on the Ed Morrissey Show (3 pm ET), we’ll take a look at the past week with Duane “Generalissimo” Patterson of the Hugh Hewitt Show. Duane and I will talk about the ongoing budget impasse, the war in Libya, and the surprise in Wisconsin yesterday. All of this and more — and stay tuned for a preview of tonight’s Hugh Hewitt Show.

Earlier today, I made an appearance on KION in central-coast California to discuss the budget impasse. It was a brief appearance, but it’s notable because the interviewer was my cousin Nick Emmons, an anchor for the station and a young man with a big future in telejournalism. Nick and I may do more of these in the future:

Meanwhile, we’re still featuring the case of Marizela Perez, who has been missing for one month. Those of you in New Jersey have an opportunity to assist tonight by attending a fundraiser to help keep the family’s search afloat. Shore News Today reports on the event:

The friends of Marizela Perez – a 2010 graduate of Egg Harbor Township High School currently missing in Seattle, Wash. – have organized a benefit to raise money to find her. The coffee house event is from 8 to 10 p.m. this Friday, April 8 in the cafeteria at Egg Harbor Township High School. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $5.

“A bunch of clubs are joining to help put this together, and all of the profits are going to her family, who’s trying to pay for a private investigator,” said Elizabeth Janansky, a friend of Marizela’s and also a 2010 graduate of the high school. “There’s going to be food for sale to raise money, too.”

The benefit will also feature an art sale, a fitting fundraiser considering Perez’s interest in art.

“Marizela was very active in the art club,” Janansky said. “She took art classes and she was very artistic.”

Perez was attending the University of Washington and went missing in Seattle on Saturday, March 5. She was last seen at a Seattle Safeway grocery store that afternoon, a sighting confirmed by surveillance video. Since then, nobody has seen or heard from Perez. A search party on March 12 yielded no new clues, and any leads have proved futile.

“We’ve gotten a couple calls from people saying maybe they’ve seen her, but when we show them other pictures they say otherwise,” Perez’s cousin Joy Mendoza said last month.

Marizela’s case has a connection here at Hot Air, as she is the cousin of the Boss Emeritus, Michelle Malkin. Michelle is trying to spread the word through Facebook and Q13Fox/KCPQ in Seattle. We want to encourage prayers for Marizela’s family, and also try to reach anyone in the area who knows where Marizela might be and ask them to contact the police.

The search has its own website now, Find Marizela, for the latest in the efforts to bring Marizela home. There is also a fund for the family to keep the search efforts going. Be sure to check there and at Michelle’s site for further developments, and keep the family in your prayers.
