Democrats have taken in recent years to spouting platitudes about "norms" and "protecting democracy," but the fact is that the party wants to do exactly what President Obama said out loud: fundamentally transform America.
"Norms" and "fundamental transformation" are the exact opposite of each other. Among the norms that the Democrats tossed out the window were things like playing by the rules, even if they created the rules in the first place.
Obeying rules is for suckers, and Republicans are the suckers, they believe.
Stacey Abrams, who became a Democratic Party hero by lying for years about her winning the election for Governor of Georgia, is a perfect example of this. The more she lied and cheated, the more popular she became.
And, after YEARS of hiding the fact that she--not her Republican opponent--cheated in her campaign by illegally coordinating with a supposedly non-partisan nonprofit run by now-Senator Raphael Warnock.

She committed fraud to win an election. Who could have guessed? And The Honorable Reverend Dr. Raphael Gamaliel Warnock was a co-conspirator in the scheme. The New York Times:
A nonprofit founded by Stacey Abrams, a Georgia Democrat, admitted on Wednesday that it had violated state law by concealing the fact that it had campaigned for her during her 2018 run for governor.
At the time of that campaign, the group was led by Raphael Warnock, who was later elected to the Senate as a Democrat from Georgia.
At a meeting of the state’s ethics commission, the nonprofit New Georgia Project conceded that it had paid for fliers and door-to-door canvassers telling voters to support Ms. Abrams and other Democrats.
Under federal law, tax-exempt charities like this one are forbidden to campaign for candidates, but this case was about a violation of state law.
Catch that? A charity founded by Stacey Abrams and run at the time by Raphael Warnock--I mean The Honorable Reverend Dr. Raphael Gamaliel Warnock--violated both state and federal laws in order to get Stacey Abrams elected.
The nonprofit conceded that, because of its campaign work for Ms. Abrams, it should have registered with the state as a political committee, but it did not. A related nonprofit, the New Georgia Project Action Fund, admitted the same.
As a result, the two nonprofits agreed to pay a $300,000 penalty. David Emadi, the executive director of the commission, said it was the largest fine in its 38-year history.
The admissions will settle a six-year battle between the nonprofits and the state ethics commission, which first accused Ms. Abrams’s group of wrongdoing in 2019.
“They’re now admitting everything we said was true,” Mr. Emadi said in an interview this week. He said the nonprofits had asked to pay the fine in two $150,000 installments, one now and one in a year.
But this isn't just about Stacey Abrams and election fraud in Georgia; this is how Democrats work all day, every day. They skirt the law by using "smurfing" to hide illegal campaign contributions, they fight like hell to ensure that voter fraud is impossible to prevent or detect, and they use hoaxes and lawfare to smear Republicans and tie them up in court. They harass politicians at their homes, stir up anger and even riots, and when given the opportunity, as during COVID, declare "emergencies" to ignore election laws.
I am not naive enough to believe that Republicans are squeaky clean, but it is not true that "they all do it" like this. Perhaps some Republicans would if they could, but in this media environment where even hoaxes by Democrats can derail a Republican's political prospects, it simply isn't possible to do things this blatant.
Consider the Abrams case:
- Abrams starts a "charity" and a nonprofit issue organization (a C3 and a C4), gets them up and running
- Abrams gets into the governor's race, and The Honorable Reverend Dr. Raphael Gamaliel Warnock of Ebenezer Baptist Church takes over the leadership of these "charities"
- The charities illegally use tax-free contributions to outright campaign for Abrams
- When caught, they fight the charges for 6 years--through a second campaign by Abrams for governor
- Finally admit that they violated the law and lied about it after Abrams is well and truly done with politics and has made a boatload of money by lying about supposedly REPUBLICAN election fraud
- Settle the case, and presumably paying the fine with the pocket change of big donors who had maxed out their legal contributions to Abrams' campaigns
Abrams will remain a Democratic Party hero, whose only blemish is not having broken the law multiple times, but rather not winning while doing it.
The ethics commission’s charges were aimed at the nonprofits. It did not seek to punish Ms. Abrams or Mr. Warnock personally.
Ms. Abrams founded the New Georgia Project in 2013, when she was the minority leader in the state’s House of Representatives. She later gave up her formal role at the nonprofit but remained close to its leaders. Mr. Warnock led the group until he began his Senate campaign in 2020.
And why shouldn't Abrams be a hero in the Democrats' eyes? She may not have won, but her co-conspirator The Honorable Reverend Dr. Raphael Gamaliel Warnock, managed to win a seat in the US Senate, which is even better than the governorship of Georgia!
Democrats get away with it for a simple reason: the Pravda Media covers for them and is constantly doing a similar thing. Collectively the partisan media apparatus can mobilize the resources that amount to hundreds of billions of dollars of propaganda investment. Almost every TV network pimps for Democrats. Almost every newspaper and magazine. Most big tech companies--although that may soon change--do the same. Corporate America is in bed with them. And you have the left-wing big money complex and Hollywood behind them.
We hear lots of talk about Rupert Murdoch and Elon Musk having too much influence, but combined their reach amounts to a tiny fraction of what the left can mobilize. If the Pravda Media were equally interested in probing Democrat malfeasance as they are in spreading hoaxes about Republicans and especially Donald Trump, the Democratic Party would cease to exist.
Not that I want to live in a one-party state with Republicans in charge. Experience shows that monopolies are disasters in waiting.
But the Republic cannot survive a Democratic Party as it exists now anywhere near power. We need at least two parties committed to being LOYAL opposition, fighting hard for their principles, and at least mostly committed to fighting fairly. There is no utopia where corruption is vanquished, but we can do much better than this.
