The murder of Brian Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare, has reminded us of just how morally bankrupt the progressive movement really is.

The first truly leftist movement--in fact, the origin of the term "left-wing"--came during the French Revolution. It famously gave us the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, spelling out the principles that were supposed to be embodied in the First French Republic. It was the preamble to the Constitution that was forever suspended during the Republic because, well, the way to utopia was through murdering everybody who didn't fit into it.

Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, AOC, Taylor Lorenz, and other leftist icons have ridden a line between "condemning" the actual murder and justifying it as an expression of a legitimate gripe people have with CEOs of companies who "harm" people.

As disgusting as the "it was wrong, but..." sentiments coming from the top of the progressive movement, the people they influence are focused on the underlying message and idolizing Mangione in the way that leftists always idolize the violent members of their leftist cults.

Others, though, see him as a role model. At least a role model for others to follow. Most of the people calling for the murder of CEOs are unlikely to have the stones to practice what they preach, but they are proud enough about their commitment to the cause that they post hit lists online and hope that somebody more "courageous" will follow through.

The frustration of the left has little to do with the specifics of any particular policy and certainly not the practices of any of the companies whose CEOs will be targeted. The fact that we are still talking about this tells me that we will see more events like this, although it will be harder to get to any particular CEO as companies will tighten security around their top people.
