'Multiracial Whiteness'

You can’t make this up. It would be too absurd.

Fiction only works when you can convince people to suspend their disbelief, and unlike books that require faster-than-light flight or the use of magic, nobody but an academic can seriously believe that there is such a thing as “Multiracial Whiteness.”

It isn’t just implausible, it is stupid.

But academic stupidity is something that National Public Radio does well, soothing its listeners with smooth-sounding nutcases whose grasp of reality is so tenuous that they can accept the idea that Black people are embracing White Supremacy.

This is not the first time some DEI-obsessed nutter has asserted that racial minorities are becoming White Supremacists, but it may be among the more absurd because it gets broadcast in the dulcet tones of NPR in a “thoughtful” and academic manner.

Or not. It’s not like I didn’t quit listening to NPR years ago.

I write about it because it is striking how immune our educated elites are to ideas that are foreign to them. Intellectually, they are provincial in the extreme, utterly incapable of grasping that people are not the cardboard cutouts they imagine. Having discovered that people they believe should be utterly ideologically captured by the Left don’t always agree with them, they immediately assume that they are somehow “culturally White” or are suffering from what the communists once called “false consciousness.”

Their logic goes like this: the bad people are “White Supremacists,” and some minorities are becoming, in their eyes, “bad people.” Hence, Blacks and Hispanics are becoming “White.”

BELTRAN: So there’s been a whole lot of people thinking and theorizing about white supremacy. And all of these scholars share a view that I share, that whiteness is not the same thing as white people and that whiteness is actually better understood as a political project that has emerged historically, and that is dynamic and that is always changing. And so whiteness as an ideology is rooted in America’s history of white supremacy – right? – which has to do with the legacy of slavery or Indigenous dispossession or Jim Crow. And I think it’s important to realize just how long in this country legal discrimination was not simply culturally acceptable but legally authorized. And so we’ve only been practicing a more consistent form of legal equality for a relatively short time since the 1960s. So Americans have often learned how to create their own sense of belonging through violence and through the exclusion of certain groups and populations.

GARCIA-NAVARRO: So what you’re saying, essentially, is that people of other races and ethnicities want to benefit from white privilege by supporting it.

BELTRAN: Right.

GARCIA-NAVARRO: So we should note that you wrote an op-ed recently in The Washington Post about this, and it stirred up a heated debate on social media. (laughter).

BELTRAN: Yeah.

GARCIA-NAVARRO: I want to read what you wrote in part. (Reading) For voters who see the very act of acknowledging one’s racial identity as itself racist, the politics of multiracial whiteness reinforces their desired approach to colorblind individualism.

Underlying this line of thinking is the belief that only White people can be anything but obsessed with race, and that an obsession with race is not only manifestly good for racial minorities but also leads to becoming a DEI fanatic. If you aren’t White, you should hate Whites.

This is just another way of saying that Western Culture is racist and bad.

No, DEI is racist and bad, and failing to see that it is tearing our country apart is one of the key reasons why Americans are so divided by now.

The Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture put out a document explaining that “White Culture,” which was implicitly presented as racist culture, embraced a set of values that needed to be eradicated. Included in those values were such evil things as “Rugged Individualism,” nuclear families, an emphasis on science over myth, a concern with actual history, a work ethic, and many other values that are key to the success of Western society.

That minorities are adopting these values means they are becoming “White” rather than embracing the values that make America successful.

It’s not just White people who are rejected by this ideology, but everything that is distinctively Western.

The irony, of course, is that all those goodies that these Leftists want to be redistributed derive from a society that embraces these values because doing so is the only path to an economically and politically vibrant society. That’s why the flow of migrants is to the United States and now Europe, not away from them.

Isn’t this obvious?

To a normal, rational person it is. To academics? Obviously not.
