Narcissism Is the Essence of Alphabet Ideology

I couldn’t let Megan Rapinoe’s ignominious departure from women’s soccer go without comment.

Not because I care a whit about either Rapinoe or women’s soccer, but because her final words about a career-ending injury were a perfect summary of the true essence of alphabet ideology.

Rapinoe, for those of you who wisely avoid anything having to do with anti-American athletes, alphabet ideology, or the joke sport of women’s soccer (don’t worry, I hate men’s soccer too, so it isn’t sexist to say this), injured her Achilles tendon on the field Saturday. It was a no-contact injury, meaning that she did it to herself.

There is nothing shameful about getting injured in sports; top athletes perform at the limits of their bodies, and injuries happen. Of course the top women’s soccer players are outclassed by the top boys’ High School teams, but that just proves that sex differences matter.

Not that Rapinoe cares; she supports transgender “women” in women’s sports; too bad she will never have to face one to experience it in person.

Rapinoe became a celebrity not through being a great athlete, but because she is proudly and loudly anti-American, and outspoken in her contempt for her fellow citizens.

All this is a prelude to what was so striking about her exit: she actually claimed that her injury is proof that God does not exist.

No, I am not kidding. She actually said that.

Rapinoe went down in the sixth minute as OL Reign lost to Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League Championship on Saturday night. Rapinoe said she believed she tore her Achilles.

In the post-match press conference, Rapinoe said she was going to get the “Aaron Rodgers treatment” to try and recover from the injury. She said she’d reach out to him or whoever did his surgery.

“I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a God, like, this is proof that there isn’t,” Rapinoe said. “This is f—ed up. It’s just f—ed up. Six minutes in and I eat my Achilles.”

Rapinoe tried to make a play on defense when she went down with a non-contact injury.

This is, of course, perfectly on-brand for the modern Left, who when confronted with basic realities like biological sex, the failures of socialism, or anything else that stands between them and their personal nirvana simply denies reality.

It’s ma’am!

Lots of wags on the internet have joked that Rapinoe’s ignominious exit from the stage is not proof that God doesn’t exist, but quite the opposite. Her exit is the answer to many a prayer.

Of course, I don’t believe that either, although I appreciate the sentiment. I am pretty sure God doesn’t work that way, and that He and all people of goodwill heartily hope that Rapinoe repents of her ways and sees the light of both God and of the blessings of liberty.

I have my doubts, of course, that this will happen. But I can hope.

Still, Rapinoe’s attitude is typical of the Left, who seek to bully others and reality itself to their will, largely because their will is the only god they know.

It’s sad. The world, both physical and spiritual, is so much larger than the cramped spaces within our minds, and when we worship ourselves we cut off the beauty of the world.

This is why Rapinoe, and all others like her, live in a constant state of rage.
