I can think of 3 good reasons to support Donald Trump for president:
- 2017
- 2018
- 2019
In other words, he was a very good president for 3 years running, although 2020 was a total disaster. He ran circles around his opponents and actually made the world a better place. Kudos.
Trump’s superpower was that he was vicious with his enemies and didn’t care what they said. His weakness was and remains that he is an @sshole, and so are his biggest defenders.
So many of them are just horrible people, and they revel in being horrible people. This isn’t true of most of the people who intend to vote for him, but for those of us who are in the arena and pay too much attention to the daily flow of politics he and his are like nails on a chalkboard.
A great example of this is today’s Trump social media trend, which is about as ridiculous, insulting, and puerile as any I have seen. It’s like the Junior High school bullies are having a good laugh at how stupid they can act and get away with it.
The trend? They call it #bootgate, based on the assertion (about which I have no opinion are even less interest) that Governor Ron DeSantis wears boots to appear taller than he is.
They are children–not the cute, lovable scamps who annoy but amuse us. They are the bullies who even as adults you want to slap silly. Low IQ bullies.

Jack Posobiac and friends–about whom I have no particularly negative or positive opinions generally–are pushing hard to turn #bootgate into a big trending topic on Twitter. They are having a huge amount of fun with it, and I suppose there is some sense in which it will work–I am quite certain that with so much mental masturbation they will achieve some sort of self-love orgasm.
With the rest of us? Not so much. Because, unlike so many people the Trump camp goes after, DeSantis is not a media creation. He is the most effective governor in my lifetime, and his reputation is built on accomplishments, not rhetoric.
As with Laura Loomer meeting up with Leftists to attack DeSantis, these Trump “influencers” are relying on collaboration with the MSM to do their dirty work. It’s like Trump and Gavin Newsom, or celebrating Anthony Fauci. It is disgusting.

There is only one way that something like this works: rattling the opponent, and if there is anything we have learned it is that Ron DeSantis doesn’t get rattled easily.
Unfortunately, as pathetic as this sort of thing is, it likely won’t hurt the Trump people, because nothing ever does. Trump is doing very well in the polls for 4 reasons:
- 2017
- 2018
- 2019
- His Leftist enemies in the media and government, including Joe Biden
All of these reasons are good ones, although there are two big reasons to kick Donald Trump out the door: 2020, and that he is an @sshole. He will never build a political movement that survives his time on the stage, as Ronald Reagan did, because his political appeal is to the people who have blind loyalty to him. They love him, in the way that so many “cool kids” love the schoolyard bully.

If Trump is the nominee I will vote for him, despite his many flaws. I will never fully forgive him for his love affair with Anthony Fauci, but compared to Biden he is a Churchill.
But I cringe at the idea of defending his petulant childishness, and feel dirty being near his “influencers.”
Trump hangs out with Laura Loomer. Enough said.
