Why Is There Still a Black Lives Matter Plaza Across From White House?

Back in 2020, at least party as a “F**k You!” to Donald Trump, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser created the “Black Lives Matter” Plaza, which is prominently featured on the city’s tourism website and lovingly maintained by the city. Just last week the city was sprucing up the area and ensuring the BLM mural on the street maintains its vibrancy.

This came AFTER BLM affiliates came out in support of Hamas terrorism.

Anybody with half a brain and the ability to read or watch TV knows that BLM and the “movement” it represents were always racist in nature and are openly antisemitic. It didn’t take a genius to discover this.

Neither of those facts is disputable because BLM has proudly asserted as much for years. Yet sports franchises, celebrities, businesses, and politicians have maintained their support for the organization, no matter the controversy it gets into.

In recent weeks BLM chapters have been expressing their support for Hamas’ terroristic attacks on Israeli civilians, earning it a few rebukes. Too few.

Some Republicans in Washington decided to make an issue of the fact that in the heart of our nation’s capitol–across from the White House in fact–there sits “Black Lives Matter Plaza.” It is an abomination, and they rightly want it gone.

Seems simple enough. In a fit of moral panic, the Mayor of a mostly Black city decided to give the finger to the Republican president, who (rightly) came out foursquare against rioting, looting, and violence. Democrats love rioting, to the point of calling it a public health imperative, but perhaps endorsing terrorism is a bridge too far?

Maybe our nation’s capital city could reject a movement that embraces outright terrorism?

Yeah, well…no. Not for Mayor Bowser is the endorsement of rape, murder, and hostage-taking enough to rethink what always was a bad move.

Bowser so far has made no direct response to the Republicans calling for her to reject the city’s association with antisemitic thugs, but she is willing to share her thoughts with the media.

In her first public statement about the renaming request, Bowser told News4 Wednesday she had not yet responded to the letter.

“I haven’t, but I would guess that those same senators never … wanted me to name 16th Street Black Lives Matter Plaza,” Bowser said.

Bowser designated the two-block stretch of 16th Street in front of the White House as Black Lives Matter Plaza in the summer of 2020 amid racial justice protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd.

“What they should know is that is a public art piece. Artists rendered it, artists painted it and Jews and Gentiles were there to support it. And it’s not linked to any particular group or person, but it is an expression of, I think, what our city felt and continues to feel,” Bowser said.

In fact, the city has plans to spruce it up even more. “Bowser said next year the city plans to install signs to explain the mural and why the street was named Black Lives Matter Plaza.”

It’s pretty easy to see what Bowser is thinking, and it’s exactly what you would expect: some lives matter a whole heck of a lot more than others. Criminals resisting arrest are to be celebrated, along with those who support the rape, murder, torture, and kidnapping of the wrong sort of people.

Jews in Israel? Who cares?

It’s good to know Mayor Bowser’s position on the matter.

By the way: 92% of DC residents are Democrats.
