Will the October 18th Trials Be Next?

Insurrection!

The Cannon Building on the US Capitol grounds (it is an office building for Congressmen) was taken over by protesters supporting an Israeli ceasefire with Hamas.

Yeah, well, not in my book. But if we are to use the definitions that the Left has been pushing for the past 3 years, a bunch of decolonizers who invaded the US Capitol grounds on Wednesday should be headed for federal prison after long stays in solitary confinement awaiting trial.

Don’t hold your breath.

I wonder if AOC is in fear for her life. After all, she has an office in the Cannon House Office Building, and she was famously scared of being assaulted on January 6th, even though she was nowhere near the protests that day. These “insurrectionists” are in the same building.

Protests in these government buildings are prohibited as they interfere with the business of Congress, although this is hardly the first time that Lefties have taken over buildings at the Capitol. For instance, anti-Trump demonstrators took over the Hart Office Building and few people said “Boo.”

But that was OK because Trump.

An appropriate response to such activities is of course arrests and prosecutions for trespassing, but none of us should pretend that protests in times of tension are genuine threats to the republic. They aren’t. January 6th wasn’t. The takeover of the Hart Office Building wasn’t, and neither is this bit of idiocy.

I have no idea whether the protesters actually are Jews or not, as they claim, but it certainly is plausible. There is a large contingent of useful idiots out there on the Left, and there are plenty of Left-wing Jews. My own theory regarding why has to do with the founding story of the Jews–the exodus–about which Jews are reminded every Seder. Jewish identity is founded on freedom from slavery and hence an identification with all oppressed peoples.

It’s unsurprising then to see many Jews identify with groups they believe are oppressed, and many buy the argument that the Palestinians are an oppressed people. This is simply my pet theory and I am willing to be corrected, but it struck me at the first Seder I attended.

Palestinians are indeed victimized, but most of that victimization stems from their own leadership sacrificing their lives out of hatred for the Jews. Hamas sacrifices Palestinian civilians for their cause, both in encouraging “martyrdom” and in using them as human shields.

I am not a fan of the tactics used here, whether by conservatives or (more often) liberals. It is silly, immature, and accomplishes nothing other than signaling a false sense of virtue.

Nor should it be legal to do so in government buildings (or private property).

But this is hardly a threat to the country. If the protests are nonviolent, protesters should just be removed and charged with a misdemeanor.
