The end is nigh, and always will be.

The Left has become an end-times cult along the lines of Heaven’s Gate, always proclaiming that the apocalypse is just around the corner.

We are going to drown, freeze, boil, starve, die of thirst, or some other horrible fate all due to the iniquity of mankind’s desire for a better life.

Whether it is Paul Ehrlich, Al Gore, or Greta Thunberg, the Left’s heroes all sing off the same song sheet, and liberals keep eating it up. It would be funny, except that the inmates are running the asylum these days. It’s as if the Heaven’s Gate cult seized power in the manner that the Anabaptists did in Münster in the 1500s, but were never tossed out of power. Instead, they run the federal government, our universities, public schools, and the MSM.

It is a cult filled with saints (Anthony Fauci, Greta Thunberg, Al Gore…) and sinners (oil companies, Republicans, anti-vaxxers), and a church called the United Nations. Their text is The Science™, which shares a name with the rationalist method, but instead of pursuing knowledge, it establishes a dogma to which the cultists cling despite all the evidence they are wrong.

For as long as I have been alive the cultists have been gaining power and prestige. In my youth, it was Paul Ehrlich and the Club of Rome, and as 60 Minutes showed the other month Ehrlich’s failures at predicting the future is no barrier to his retaining influence. He still has a safe sinecure at Stanford and still preaches the oncoming doom, as if Heaven’s Gate adherents still shout at the heavens despite the martyrdom of their leader Marshall Applewhite and his fanatical followers.

Anthropogenic climate change may or may not be a thing, but the doom brought on by it certainly is not. Just as Hale-Bopp the comet was a thing, but it didn’t come down from the heavens and swoop up Applewhite’s followers. The Earth hasn’t even reached the temperature maximum achieved during the last interglacial period in Earth’s history, and life survived that just fine. The subsequent glacial maximum? That was much less pleasant for life on Earth. My home would be under a mile of ice and the sea levels 400 feet lower than today a few millennia ago.

Not sure why that is preferable to a 1-2 degree increase in global temperatures, which by the way would still be cooler than a time when human beings first evolved.

It’s impossible to take these people seriously, provided you have a memory and a decent education in logic. Given our recent experience with COVID “scientists,” we should have learned that a lying scientist is in fact a very real thing indeed. They are lying to you for “your own good,” perhaps, but they are lying.

The only difference here is that the global warming cultists can’t be proven wrong in real time; it takes years for their lies to be uncovered, and by the time they are a whole new set of predictions has been propagated.

Most Americans are only vaguely concerned about the “crisis,” but have made the fatal error of allowing the cultists access to children. Anybody with a time horizon longer than a few years becomes inured to the hysteria after a while, but children are vulnerable. That is why Greta Thunberg became the cultists’ puppet, and one of the reasons why children are so freaked out these days. Many genuinely believe that life on Earth is doomed.

Since the advent of industrialism and the enormous increase in lifespan and prosperity, capitalism has faced the same enemy in different garb. Climate change is the same cult in different garb.

It is socialism dressed up as environmentalism. And socialism is nothing but a cult.
