We don't need no stinkin' science!

Rochelle Walensky, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control has made her position clear: the gold standard of medical science, the randomized controlled trial, is inferior to her personal guesses when it comes to CDC recommendations.

Makes sense. The CDC and NIAID have been pulling policy recommendations out of their nether regions since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, so why should we expect anything to change now? Their flatulence stinks less than their policies do.

You have to love that last bit…the CDC’s masking guidance doesn’t really change with time…” Except it did, Rochelle. It did.

I am old enough to remember when the top docs in the US government scoffed at using masks, recommending against them. And after that, it suggested bandannas and bejeweled pieces of cloth as talismans to ward off the evil spirit of COVID.

Now, after systematic analysis of RCTs proves masks don’t work, the CDC is standing firm: toddlers should be forced to wear masks despite the obvious fact that they don’t do anything at all, and toddlers are at less risk from COVID than from SIDS. About twice as many kids die of SIDS in any given year than have died from COVID since the pandemic began.

So…masks don’t work, kids don’t die from COVID, and their learning is harmed by masks. Hence we should mask kids. OK.

Why? I actually am curious about what they are thinking. It can’t be what they are actually saying, because what they are saying is clearly insane. Even her lame argument against the Cochrane analysis makes no sense since it relies on the weird notion that masks might actually work well if only people used them properly. So? It is literally impossible to even get doctors to consistently use masks properly over time. It goes against basic human nature.

What 2-year-old could possibly use a mask properly? Adults can’t, and we supposedly have self-control. Toddlers? They can’t control their bowels yet.

Even the WHO and our European allies recognize that masking children is stupid and counterproductive. The US is an outlier, and no amount of common sense or science will change their minds.

I can understand the desire to control the behavior of adults. Forcing people to wear masks is an assertion of power and a tool to break down the will of the adult. But that strategy doesn’t work on children.

Is this aimed at breaking the will of parents? Maybe.

But it most likely is just bureaucrats wanting to throw a tantrum and prove that no matter what the science says, the power still rests with them.

Whatever the motivation, the bureaucrats need to be put in their place. And if Congress can’t force the president to change course and fire these tyrants, the least they can do is insult them and rake them over the coals as often as humanly possible. Make their lives miserable. Make them wish they had never taken the job. Take away their self-satisfied glow of superiority.

Congressmen have power too, you know. Use it.

Rochelle is undoubtedly smart, perhaps more than simply smart. She is also likely a pleasant person to deal with, being educated and cultured. She has certainly led a charmed life.

But she is a tyrant, choosing to harm children for whatever purpose she decides.

As long as she is in that job, Congress should make her work life a living hell.
