Sanctimony, like whining, is one of the great pleasures in life–but only for the people doing it.
For the rest of us, sanctimony, like whining, is repulsive. Good parenting mostly stops whining, but as far as I can tell sanctimoniousness has no cure. Only good character can suppress it.
All the sanctimonious preaching about “election deniers” and “democracy at risk” is as grating as it is ridiculous, and we can only hope that after the 2nd electoral thrashing Democrats suffer in 2024 they will drop the messaging and try something new.
Maybe killing more babies? Euthanasia? Mutilating children? Porn in schools? Rioting in the streets? Substituting insects for meat? Something clever like that. Their messaging options are limitless.
Complaining about election shenanigans is as American as Apple Pie, and for a reason. Cheating has always existed at the margins, and we even used to joke about it openly. Dead voters in Chicago, anyone?
It’s even widely believed among historians that the 1960 presidential election was stolen, and nobody I know is prepared to throw out American democracy over that. Hugh Hewitt has been joking for years–sort of joking–that Republicans have to get out and vote in order to win beyond the margin of cheating.
The biggest election deniers this century have been Democrats. How many stories were pushed about “faithless electors” in the Electoral College during the Bush II elections, or the Trump 2016 one? Countless. Hillary Clinton spent years after 2016 claiming the election was stolen from her, and most figures in the mainstream media echoed her complaint.
Stacey Abrams’ entire political legitimacy rests upon her claim to be the Real Governor of Georgia™–a claim backed by every prominent Democrat until “election denial” became a swearword in 2021. At least this time Abrams’ inevitable claims of cheating in 2022 will be laughed at.
I am not even going to bother posting the videos–we have all seen them endless times and know what crap the Democrats are spewing on this issue.
Democrats’ sanctimony over elections, or democratic norms, or whatever euphemism they have for preserving and expanding their power, is total and complete BS. They constantly attack our Constitution, our Courts, the separation of powers, Senate rules, and any law or tradition they find inconvenient.
The essence of Progressivism is now and has always been throwing away the old and traditional in favor of using any tools necessary to achieve political goals. They believe the goals to be worthy–or claim to–and that justifies any violation of rules or norms. It is a foundational principle of progressivism. Woodrow Wilson, one of the great racists in American history and hero of the Democrats–spent a career attacking both the vote and the Constitution.
In 2005 Jimmy Carter and James Baker–a Democrat elder statesman and a Republican elder statesman–chaired a commission that made recommendations regarding the best way to secure elections.
The reason the commission existed was clear: people’s confidence in elections is vital to democratic legitimacy, and confidence rests on both access and security. People must be allowed to vote, and they must be assured that their vote is secure and that cheating is suppressed. Jimmy Carter himself acknowledged there was fraud, and that mail-in voting and was a chief vector for committing it. He endorsed voter ID.
America has gone all in on access, but security has been thrown out the window. The commission identified mail in voting as the easiest way to cheat, and the Democrats took that as an invitation, not a warning. No wonder many Republicans are sure that Democrats are cheating–they embraced wholeheartedly the one method of voting that Jimmy Carter himself declared insecure. Democrats vehemently oppose all of these measures except expanding access.
Access to the ballot without any way to ensure that the ballots are legitimate. They seriously claim there is no cheating, or that they don’t want it? As Biden says, C’MON, MAN.
Do I know how much election fraud there is, or how much it actually influences outcomes? Of course not. But I know it happens. Before Trump Jimmy Carter admitted it and agreed to combat it.
Just today it was reported that a Democrat poll worker was ejected from their job because they were marking peoples’ ballots for a straight Democrat ticket and telling voters that Republicans are racist. In the voting booth. This is election fraud.

Of course everybody cheats. There are certainly going to be Republicans who try to commit election fraud–it’s just that we don’t have the infrastructure to do so on a mass scale. In most places the Democrats run the elections. Government employees are largely Democrat, as are the nonprofits driving both turnout and poll watchers. Many Republicans would cheat if they could, but generally they can’t.
People care deeply about the outcome of elections. Power and money are at stake, as is the ability to control the schools and other vital institutions. It would be shocking if nobody tried to cheat. It would be the very first time in history that nobody would be willing to commit fraud to acquire money and power. What other area of life is immune from cheating when a lot is at stake? Any?
People cheat at golf–at corn hole even!–but not elections? BS.

Politico just told us that cheating was debunked in 2020, but quite possible in 2022. How big a propagandist can one be? Politico is doing its best to prove that the MSM is so deep inside the Democrats’ nether regions that they have lost their ability to see, smell, or think.
The 2020 presidential election was rife with allegations of voting machine hacks that were later debunked.
Yet there are real risks that hackers could tunnel into voting equipment and other election infrastructure to try to undermine Tuesday’s vote.https://t.co/kDij1J08eU

Election security is vital, both the secure the elections themselves and to enhance the credibility of the outcome. People are less likely to comply when they believe they are cheated–so minimize the opportunity. We do this in finance, sports, business…why not politics?
Security is a practical issue, not a political one, if confidence in elections is important to you. The only reason securing elections is political is that Democrats LOVE the way things are now. Their phony concern about “democracy at risk” is a marketing ploy, not a serious concern. Pure, unadulterated propaganda that only the most blind of their adherents believes it.
We all know election cheating happens. Some believe it is so rare that it is irrelevant; others believe it turns elections. But you are lying or a moron if you think that in a fight over how to spend trillions of dollars, control over the economy and the massive military might of the United States nobody would want to cheat. Ridiculous on its face. People cheat over much, much less. Over corn hole, for God’s sake. And fishing contests.
Not phishing fraud. Old-fashioned fishing fraud. Going on for years. Some contests make dudes take lie detector tests. #fishy https://t.co/9CqMbJyxi8

So drop the whining and sanctimony. If Democrats really care about democracy help anybody from any party who wants to both secure the vote and increase trust in elections. Quit screaming and start working.
Until Democrats do I will remain convinced that the only way for Republicans to win elections is get enough votes to beat the margin of cheating.
