Bill Maher and Aaron Rodgers: We passed out $6 trillion to keep people hiding under their beds

Well, that was unexpected.

Bill Maher recorded his podcast Club Random with Aaron Rodgers this week, and parts of the discussion were…surprising.

Maher is usually reliably liberal, but there is a fair amount of evidence that he has been “red pilled” of late. He has been deviating from the Leftist line more than usual, and that has to be giving the lefties heartburn.

Rogers has been pretty vocal of late, at least partly because he was understandably ticked off by the vaccine mandates. Many of us were, and it was nice to see a prominent figure stand up to the woke mob and speak his mind. In today’s world celebrities who aren’t explicitly Left are constantly apologizing to the mob for existing and thinking for themselves.

At one point in Maher’s discussion with Rodgers the COVID madness came up, and neither held back in their disdain for how Americans caved to the authoritarians.

Maher has always had a libertarian streak, so it’s not shocking that he is skeptical about how heavy handed government has become, and especially how police powers were used to vindictively persecute people who doubted the government line. He’s also started to stand up to the woke crowd, which has to hurt all those liberals who cheered him on as he eviscerated Republicans over the years.

I poked around a bit and the nugget that the MSM picked up was that neither man understands all the hate directed at Joe Buck. Granted, that is indeed a question for the ages, but it hardly strikes the same chord with the pressing issues of the day. The fallout from COVIDiocy strikes me as just a bit more interesting. This clip should be the one everyone is focused on. We can all hate on Joe Buck later.

COVID has been the gift that keeps on giving to the authoritarian Left. It has been a political cudgel, an excuse for spending incomprehensible sums of money, an excuse for “emergency powers” without limit, and a boogyman to scare the weaker-minded of the plebs. It provides endless opportunities for virtue signaling, spewing bile, and petty tyranny. And every single one of those opportunities has been and continues to be taken.

Rodgers and Maher are dead right about how scary it is that so many Americans caved under pressure. Even smart, rational people who normally use their minds to parse out facts and use logic to arrive at conclusions suddenly surrendered to the mesmerizing effects of “expertise.” And once the experts were exposed as frauds they then turned their otherwise excellent minds to coming up with excuses for why the experts weren’t liars, but were instead evolving in their understanding.

Sad.

COVID has provided a blueprint for the next “emergency,” and you can bet that the Left has learned its lessons on how to get most Americans to comply.

Don’t comply.
