It’s hard to believe that two weeks of the Olympics have flown by. Yesterday, the United States won five medals–three gold and two silver–bringing their total to 105.

The U.S. Women’s Water Polo team won the gold medal yesterday in convincing fashion, defeating Italy by a score of 12-5. The United States has medaled in every single Olympics that has offered women’s water polo. Team USA also won gold in London.

Connor Fields has had a remarkable road to Rio. After finishing seventh in the London Games, Fields barely was able to qualify for the 2016 Olympics after he broke his hand just four months ago. To even compete in Rio, Fields needed a special brace to protect his hand. Yesterday, Fields snapped the United States’ medal drought in BMX racing and was able to take home the gold.

Making the most of a second chance:  The U.S. women’s 4×100 relay team was disqualified after a bad handoff in the semifinals. The U.S. protested, saying that a Brazilian runner had interfered with Allyson Felix, and the team was re-instated in the final after a re-run posted the highest qualifying score of the day. Last night, the U.S. took the gold for the second straight Olympics.

Triple^3:  Usain Bolt is really really freakin’ fast. He completed the “triple-triple” on Friday, winning the 4×100 relay. This is Bolt’s ninth gold medal.

Wheeeeee!:  Sandi Morris won the silver medal in pole vault on Friday night. Morris finished in fourth place at the 2015 World Championships.

So close:  Laura Zeng, the only competitor in rhythmic gymnastics individuals from the United States, was hundredths of a point from moving on to the finals and finished in 11th place. This is the highest placement for an American in rhythmic gymnastics since 1984. We’re going to see big things from her in the future.

Congratulations are in order: To Simone Biles, who was selected to carry the American flag for the Closing Ceremonies on the 21st. She’s the first gymnast since 1936 selected for this honor. Biles won five medals, including four gold, in Rio.
