The U.S. is still running away with the lead in the medal table, and it isn’t even close anymore. Here’s some of the awesomeness that went down yesterday:

The United States swept the podium in the 100m hurdles competition. Brianna Rollins took the gold, Nia Ali the silver, and Kristi Castlin won the bronze by hundredths of a second. This is the first time the U.S. has swept an event in women’s track and field.
Also shining brightly: Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross, USA, Beach Volleyball

Walsh Jennings and Ross had an epic come-from-behind victory to win the Bronze medal over an impressive Brazilian team in three sets.
Lots of success in various jumping sports: The United States took home the silver in the equestrian team jumping event, and
won the gold and silver medals in the women’s long jump competition. This is the first time the U.S. has ever gone 1-2 in the long jump.
2008 was the last year @USEquestrian stood on the podium for team jumping… UNTIL TODAY!

Lyin’ Lochte?: Ryan Lochte and three other American swimmers claimed to have been robbed, but things took a turn yesterday when Brazilian authorities started to cast doubt on that claim. Two of Lochte’s teammates were removed from their flight home.
Easton in the lead after day one: Ashton Eaton took home the gold in the decathlon back in London 2012, and after day one he’s well on his way towards winning a second gold. His wife, Canadian heptathlete Brianne Theisen-Eaton, won the bronze in her event.
