Sunday morning talking heads

It’s decision time for Biden’s agenda as America’s most influential politician swings by the Sunday shows. The most important Joe in Washington, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, is set for “Fox News Sunday” to discuss whether Build Back Better is truly dead or, a la “The Princess Bride,” only mostly dead. The fact that he chose Fox for his lone Sunday interview after negotiations with the White House derailed doesn’t bode well for Democrats. Manchin will be pressed on whether there’s anything the rest of his party can do that’ll get him to yes or whether BBB is done, at least until inflation is less of a concern.

Elsewhere, the federal government’s top two science bureaucrats are scheduled to try to reassure Americans who are anxious about the explosive spread of the Omicron variant. Anthony Fauci will speak with “This Week,” “Meet the Press,” and “State of the Union” while his boss at NIH, Francis Collins, chats with “State of the Union” and “Fox News Sunday.” Thus far, the feds have pointed to the apparent mildness of the variant in South Africa as evidence that there’s no need for Americans to cancel their holiday plans. If there’s been a rethink on that with cases skyrocketing in New York City, we’ll hear about it this morning.

Finally, Adam Kinzinger will speak to “This Week” and “State of the Union” about any new surprises that the January 6 committee may have uncovered in its investigation and whether Donald Trump might end up being charged with obstructing federal proceedings. Also, the GOP’s favorite Democratic governor, Jared Polis of Colorado, will tell “Meet the Press” why he thinks mask mandates are indefensible in an age when vaccines are ubiquitous and freely available. Does he still feel that way with Omicron about to overrun his state? The full line-up is at the AP.
