Sunday morning talking heads

A slow news week ends with the Sunday shows turning to some of its regular guests for conversation. Adam Kinzinger, a Sunday morning mainstay, will chat with “State of the Union” about the January 6 committee’s legal battle with uncooperative witnesses and the insanity of Trump threatening to tank the GOP’s chances in 2022 and 2024 if they don’t “solve” the non-mystery of last fall’s election. He’ll also be pressed on his plans next year now that he’s likely to be redistricted out of his House seat. Will he challenge Democrat Marie Newman in Illinois’ new Third District? Will he run for governor or Senate? Or will he retire, knowing that he’s facing the insuperable obstacle of having to win a Republican primary despite being one of America’s most outspoken anti-Trumpers?

Elsewhere, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is back from paternity leave and ready to sell Americans on the infrastructure bill that his party, uh, refuses to pass. He’ll speak to “Meet the Press” and “State of the Union” about the controversy over his long absence during a supply-chain crisis and hopefully explain why the White House favors bottling up the roads-and-bridges bill in the House while negotiations over the reconciliation bill drag on interminably. Maybe he’ll even find a few minutes to describe what’s *in* the reconciliation bill. Thanks to Democrats obsessing over the topline number and squabbling endlessly over procedure, some 90 percent of Americans still have little idea of what the legislation would do.

Finally, Anthony Fauci is booked to discuss the ongoing booster campaign and the timetable for rolling out the shots for kids aged five to 11. He’ll talk with “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday” to reiterate his support for vaccine mandates of all stripes, thereby hardening anti-mandate resolve among Republicans even further. The full line-up is at the AP.
