The Sunday shows bring a minor surprise this morning after a week filled with chatter about potential compromises on infrastructure and voting reform. Instead of His Majesty, Joe Manchin, the decider on all problems facing our great land, we get the most left-wing senator in the caucus. Bernie Sanders will tell “Meet the Press” and “State of the Union” how progressives are feeling about Manchin’s proposals and whether Schumer can expect party-line support. No doubt Bernie resents the assumption that lefties should go along with whatever deal Manchin is able to swing with Republicans. He’s on today to remind everyone that he won’t rubber-stamp a bipartisan agreement if it doesn’t satisfy his own priorities.

Elsewhere, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will speak with “This Week” and “State of the Union” about the administration’s progress on figuring out where SARS-CoV-2 came from and this week’s summit with Putin in Geneva. He’ll also weigh in on the fact that Iran’s incoming hardline president supports reinstating the nuclear deal with the U.S. but, uh, happens to be personally subject to U.S. sanctions at the moment. Is Biden willing to lift those sanctions in the name of restarting negotiations? Or is the plan to get a deal done before the new guy takes power?

Finally, former Trump natsec advisor Fiona Hill will discuss the Putin summit with “Meet the Press” and “Face the Nation.” Hill helped prepare Biden for the meeting. She was also at Trump’s summit with Putin in Helsinki and was so mortified by him siding with Russia over U.S. intelligence on whether the Kremlin meddled in the 2016 campaign at their joint press conference that she considered faking a medical emergency to try to interrupt it.
