Sunday morning talking heads

Georgia’s new voting law is the top topic on this morning’s Sunday shows, yet as of Saturday morning no one from the Georgia GOP is booked to defend it. No Brian Kemp, no Geoff Duncan, no Brad Raffensperger, no Gabriel Sterling. And Sterling has been vocal on Twitter:

Maybe he’ll turn up as a late addition to the schedule. For Democrats it’ll be Sen. Raphael Warnock and Rep. Nikema Williams, who represents John Lewis’s old district in Atlanta, pressing the case that the law is some sort of 21st-century return to Jim Crow. The only way the left can create enough political momentum to make Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema buckle on passing H.R. 1 with 50 votes is by framing the new statute as a racist “atrocity,” to borrow the president’s term. Expect Warnock and Williams to focus on how the new law prevents activists from handing out food and water to voters in line, a minor change to the state’s electioneering statute but a vivid illustration of the claim that the legislature’s intent was punitive and mean-spirited. Warnock and Williams will chat with “State of the Union” about their objections.

Elsewhere, Anthony Fauci will sit down with “Face the Nation” for the usual song and dance about how case counts are still too high, we’re making progress on vaccinations but not enough yet to be where we need to be, etc etc. You know how it goes after a year. And Secretary of State Antony Blinken will join “State of the Union” to revisit the recent unpleasantness when U.S. diplomats met their Chinese counterparts in Alaska and to address the ominous signs that China might be planning to make a move on Taiwan.
