The top story on this morning’s Sunday shows is the definitely-not-a-crisis happening on America’s southern border, where hundreds of kids from Mexico and Central America enter the United States each day and the Biden administration … seems perfectly content to let that continue. The lead guest is Homeland Security chief Alejandro Mayorkas, who’ll chat with “This Week,” “Meet the Press,” “State of the Union,” and “Fox News Sunday” about his plans for border non-enforcement and what I’ll politely describe as his “mixed messages” to would-be migrants. Earlier this week he warned parents of unaccompanied minors that they shouldn’t send their kids north right now while reassuring them that (a) if they ignore his advice their little ones will be well taken care of and (b) he’s working hard on building out a bureaucracy that’ll allow the U.S. to absorb many, many more children in a safe and orderly way. Go figure that some Mexican and Central American parents have taken that as encouragement.

Elsewhere, Asian-American lawmakers from both parties will discuss the massage-parlor massacre in Atlanta (which may or may not have been racially motivated) and the uptick in hate crimes against people of Asian descent since the arrival of COVID last spring (which may or may not be real). Democrats Judy Chu and Tammy Duckworth will talk with “This Week” and “Face the Nation,” respectively, while Republicans Young Kim and Michelle Steel speak to “State of the Union.”

Finally, keep an eye out for Moncef Slaoui, the former head of Operation Warp Speed, who’ll be on “Face the Nation” to discuss America’s vaccination progress and the curious habit of the Biden administration to denigrate the Trump administration’s work on getting us to where we are.
