Sunday morning talking heads

The last Sunday of the 2020 presidential campaign arrives with wall-to-wall coverage of the election on this morning’s shows, featuring a star guest whom none of us outside of Pennsylvania has heard of. That would be Kathy Boockvar, the state’s secretary of state, who’s in charge of vote-counting there. She’ll weigh in with “Meet the Press” on the legal wrangling over whether mail-in ballots that arrive after polls close will be counted, whether it’s fair for SCOTUS to suspend its verdict on that point until after Election Day, and how much chaos the president’s attempts to gaslight the public about whether ballots should fairly be counted after November 3 is causing locally.

Elsewhere, the governors of the three states that are most likely to decide the presidency — all Democrats — will preview their plans to handle post-election chaos if the vote is close. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Tony Evers of Wisconsin, and Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania will each chat with Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” about the frightening COVID surges in their states and how soon they expect vote-counting to be done. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine will be on as well, although no one expects Ohio to be decisive on Tuesday. If Trump wins it, he still needs to take care of business elsewhere in the Rust Belt. If he loses it, he’s done.

There are tons of surrogates for each campaign booked this morning too, of course. For the GOP: RNC chair Ronna McDaniel will speak with “Face the Nation,” Corey Lewandowski will talk to “Fox News Sunday,” and Mark Meadows will sit with “This Week.” For the Dems: Biden advisor Anita Dunn and Pete Buttigieg both get the call on “State of the Union” while Amy Klobuchar appears on “Fox News Sunday.” The single strongest piece of evidence Republicans have right now that the election will be closer than everyone expects is the attention Democrats are paying lately to Klobuchar’s home state of Minnesota. That shouldn’t be in play if an easy Biden win is in the works. We’ll see what Klobuchar has to say about it this morning. The full line-up is at the AP.
