Sunday morning talking heads

Can it be? The two most effective social-media politicians of the decade booked on the same Sunday show on the same day? Believe it: “This Week” will air the remaining portions of George Stephanopoulos’s newsmaking interview with Trump before sitting down with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to discuss impeachment and other matters. Expect AOC to politely accuse Pelosi of wimping out so far and to dodge questions about whether she’s really planning to endorse Elizabeth Warren over Bernie in the primary. (I’ll believe it when I see it.) She’ll also be asked about her unlikely legislative partnership with Ted Cruz. Will she take him up on his offer to help make birth control available over the counter?

Apart from “This Week,” it’s the Pete Buttigieg show this morning, continuing his strategy of raising his national profile through sheer media ubiquity. He’s set for “Meet the Press,” “Face the Nation,” and “State of the Union” to chat about the primaries and the prospect of sharing a stage with Biden, Bernie, and Kamala Harris at the first debate two weeks from now. Buttigieg’s appeal so far has overlapped with Sanders’s, drawing from his base of younger white liberals; he may use this morning as an opportunity to attack Bernie, preparing the battlespace for the debates. But expect him to elaborate on his critique of the Obama-Biden administration’s foreign policy too.

If none of that grabs you, there’s still the small matter of a possible U.S. war with Iran. Mike Pompeo will be on “Fox News Sunday” and “Face the Nation” to defend his claim that Iran is responsible for the recent tanker attacks in the Gulf of Oman amid skepticism here and abroad. The full line-up is at the AP.
