Sunday morning talking heads

The post-Mueller spin war will be fully engaged this fine Easter morning, with some of the least liked, least persuasive surrogates from both sides enlisted in the battle. On the left it’s noted pencil neck and media whore Adam Schiff, who’ll be on to lambaste Trump over Mueller’s findings on obstruction while also reluctantly conceding that those findings aren’t enough to justify impeachment. He’ll be on “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday” to push the Democratic message.

On the right it’s Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani and senior advisor Kellyanne Conway, both of whom at different times in the past two years have allegedly been held back from regular television appearances due to ineffectiveness. Rudy will sit down with “Meet the Press,” “State of the Union,” and “Fox News Sunday” to insist that the Mueller report is a total win for Trump and to call Don McGahn a liar for claiming that Trump tried to have Mueller fired. Conway will chat with “This Week,” where she’ll once again try to dodge uncomfortable questions about something her husband wrote.

Another interesting guest this morning is Mike Lee, who went from ardent anti-Trumper in 2016 to cautiously Trump-friendly today and is forever being pulled back and forth between those positions by events. What’s his take on the Mueller report? He can play to the base by following Trump’s “total exoneration” line or he can follow his Utah colleague Mitt Romney’s lead by expressing his disgust at Trump’s behavior related to obstruction. He’ll also be pressed on what he thinks of Trump’s veto of Congress’s resolution demanding an end to U.S. military support for Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen. Lee co-sponsored that resolution in the Senate and was the lead Republican voice in support. How does he, an ardent constitutionalist, feel about the president waging war that’s not only undeclared by Congress but opposed by it? He’ll answer on “Face the Nation.”

Oh, and as has become a weekly ritual in 2019, Jerry Nadler will be on to ruminate about his House Judiciary Committee impeaching Trump. Watch “Meet the Press” for that. The full line-up is at the AP.
