Sunday morning talking heads

Trade talks with China are at the top of the menu for the Sunday shows this morning, with Trump economic advisor Larry Kudlow the star guest. He’ll be on “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday” to discuss progress towards ending the trade war, with U.S. Trade Rep Robert Lighthizer stopping by “Face the Nation” to address the same topic. Expect both to focus on the good, to downplay the bad, and to try to avoid the ugly.

One question I hope they’re asked: Are they sure their boss views U.S. tariffs solely as a point of leverage towards getting foreign tariffs lifted on U.S. goods? Because to hear “Tariff Man” talk, it sure seems sometimes that he thinks tariffs are good in and of themselves, not temporary necessary evils towards the end of freer trade.

Elsewhere, Marco Rubio will sit down with “This Week,” “Face the Nation,” and “State of the Union” to give his thoughts on the trade standoff with China, the prospects of Bill Barr and Heather Nauert being confirmed by the Senate, and the White House’s attempt to move past the Khashoggi killing in U.S.-Saudi relations. Rubio’s not as eager to move past it:

If none of that grabs you, a bevy of Democrats will be on to chatter about Mueller’s filings on Friday and the growing odds of impeaching “Individual-1.” It’ll be Chris Murphy on “This Week,” Adam Schiff on “Face the Nation,” and Jerrold Nadler on “State of the Union.” After 18 months of Russiagate drama, it’s weird yet true that — for the moment — the greatest threat to Trump’s presidency is the payoff he and Michael Cohen made to Stormy Daniels. Directing someone to commit a felony usually means you’ve committed a felony yourself. The full line-up is at the AP.
