Sunday morning talking heads

The top story on the Sunday shows this morning is (what else?) Russiagate, fueled by Michael Cohen’s claim that Trump knew at the time that Don Jr met with a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in 2016 for dirt on Hillary. Appearing for the defense: Rudy Giuliani, who’ll be on “Fox News Sunday” and “Face the Nation” to explain why he thought a few months ago that Cohen was an able, trustworthy lawyer and why he thinks now that he’s a lifelong pathological liar whom only a fool would trust. Until recently, the party line among MAGA Nation was that the president himself never colluded with Russia and it’s ridiculous to think that he would have. In the 24 hours since Cohen’s allegation, that line has shifted to “Who care if it’s true?” We’ll see if Rudy attempts a similar shift this morning.

If you’re bored with Russiagate, and you should be, Trump’s trade war is also on tap this morning. Appearing for the prosecution: Ron Johnson, who was last seen comparing the White House’s bailout of farmers to Soviet-style economics. He’ll be on “Face the Nation” to discuss whether Trump’s friendly meeting on trade with the EU on Thursday has eased his concerns. Larry Kudlow, Trump’s top economic advisor, will drop by “State of the Union” to counter Johnson and defend Trump’s policy even though there’s 0.0 percent doubt that a lifelong free-trader like Kudlow privately believes it’s a terrible idea.

Former Trump advisor turned enemy Sam Nunberg will also turn up this a.m., sitting down with “Meet the Press” to talk Russiagate and the legal danger that his former mentor, Roger Stone, is in with Bob Mueller. The full line-up is at the AP.
