There’s momentarily only one news topic of import and the Sunday shows are all-in on it this morning. Will Trump’s SCOTUS pick be Kavanaugh, Kethledge, or Barrett? If there’s to be a hint it’ll come from Leonard Leo, executive VP of the Federalist Society and the man helping Don McGahn run the show on selecting Kennedy’s replacement. He’s the lead guest on “This Week.” I’ve got all my chips on Kavanaugh, clues to the contrary notwithstanding.

Most of the other guests are senators, naturally enough, to preview the upcoming confirmation battle. Only one of them is in any doubt as to which way he’ll vote, though. (Maybe the other fencesitters are lying low, hoping to avoid attention?) The sure things are Richard Blumenthal on “This Week,” Dick Durbin and Roy Blunt on “Meet the Press,” Joni Ernst and Chris Coons on “Face the Nation,” and Lindsey Graham on “Fox News Sunday.” Even Jeff Flake, who’ll be on “State of the Union,” is a near lock to vote yes. The X factor is Doug Jones, who’ll follow Flake on the same program. Jones is probably unelectable in Alabama regardless of how he votes, as his term is up in the presidential election year of 2020 when Republican turnout in Alabama will be high. Hence his dilemma: Does he vote no on the nominee with his party, potentially ending even a longshot’s chance at another term, or does he try to pander to the hometown crowd by supporting the nomination?
