Via Mediaite, it’s strange that this detail hadn’t emerged until now despite 48 hours of coverage plus an interview with the restaurant’s owner in WaPo. The scenario Huckabee describes is strange too:
By the way Laura, there’s a part of that story that hasn’t been told, you’re going to be the first to hear it. Once Sarah and her family left, of course Sarah was asked to please vacate, Sarah and her husband just went home. They had sort of had enough. But the rest of her family went across the street to a different restaurant. The owner of the Red Hen – nobody’s told this – then followed them across the street, called people, and organized a protest yelling and screaming at them from outside the other restaurant and creating this scene.”
Disrupting a business that’s located right across the street from your own is asking for trouble. It’s an invitation to retaliation. And why would the Red Hen’s owner need that when she’d already made her point by declaring Sanders persona non grata on her own premises? According to the owner herself, everything was low-key inside the restaurant: “For all the angst that evening, Wilkinson said, everything had taken place with decorum. She had been polite; Sanders had been polite; the press secretary’s family had been polite as they followed her out the door.” That doesn’t sound like the makings of a chase-’em-across-the-street follow-on protest.
But Huckabee’s obviously in a position to have non-public knowledge of this incident. And why would he lie, knowing that the owner will surely correct the record if he is and the media will spend the next two days dunking on him for it?
It’s not as if some liberals won’t go the extra mile to convey their disgust to their political enemies:
Department of Homeland Security employees are seeing violent threats with greater frequency because of the president’s immigration policy, according to an official with knowledge of a recent threat assessment…
Around two dozen threat reports were issued in the past few days, primarily against Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, according to the same official. Each of these reports is generally related to a specific online threat. All employees are personally contacted by DHS security if they are the target of a violent threat, the official said.
In one example, a senior DHS official living in the Washington. D.C. area found a burnt and decapitated animal on his front porch, according to an official with knowledge of the incident.
That’s the most extreme example of incivility between political opponents I’ve seen lately, but of course not the most extreme example of the Trump era. The man who was at the center of that incident responded on Twitter today to Maxine Waters…

…and got an earful for it from some in the woke brigades, his near-death at the hands of a violent leftist notwithstanding:
A vocal Trump supporter who votes with President Insult Comedian 100% of the time lecturing Maxine Waters about "civility and respect." Staggering hypocrisy. https://t.co/S5zrFCciTT

Here’s where I’m tempted to say that the two parties are fractured irreparably and should consider some sort of peaceful national divorce, until I remember that no one except the most activist five percent of Americans — basically the people who watch cable news — cares about any of this stuff. Can we arrange a divorce somehow between only the red and blue parts of that five percent?
