Make Twitter feuds great again: It's time for Trump to arrest Rosie O'Donnell for bribery

The tweet below has been up for hours … without a peep from the presidential Twitter account. What?

What did we elect this guy for, if not to savagely dunk on his old enemy Rosie O’Donnell when she hands him a golden opportunity?

That was her last-ditch attempt last night to get Collins to vote no on the tax bill. Eh, she’s a comedian and it’s just a joke, right?

I don’t know. Is it?

I’m excited for all of you who are chattering about tax reform this morning but I dare say the bigger news is that Rosie is a fugitive from justice. The law on this is straightforward, after all. Via Ben Shapiro, the relevant statute is 18 U.S.C. 201(b). Note that acceptance of a bribe isn’t necessary to violate the statute. Merely offering is itself a criminal offense:

(b) Whoever—

(1) directly or indirectly, corruptly gives, offers or promises anything of value to any public official or person who has been selected to be a public official, or offers or promises any public official or any person who has been selected to be a public official to give anything of value to any other person or entity, with intent—

(A) to influence any official act;…

shall be fined under this title or not more than three times the monetary equivalent of the thing of value, whichever is greater, or imprisoned for not more than fifteen years, or both, and may be disqualified from holding any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.

Two $2 million bribes could mean two $6 million fines and 30 years in prison. Lock her up. Or at least make sure she never holds federal office. In a world where Trump is capable of winning the presidency, a goof like Rosie is capable of being elected to some safe blue House seat. Let’s avert that terrible possibility now.

Trump’s Christmas gift to America should be trolling the hell out of Rosie by declaring on Twitter that she’s under arrest. Then he could “pardon” her. Or, true to populist form, let the people decide: Do a Twitter poll where his followers get to vote on whether Jeff Sessions should personally take her into custody for bribing two federal officials. His job approval would bounce 10 points overnight.
