Woman says George H.W. Bush groped her in 2003, when she was 16

A leftover from last night but also a pick-me-up for Roy Moore fans dejected by the news of the past week. It’s not just Mr Populism who allegedly got handsy with 16-year-olds. Mr Establishment supposedly did too.

If the accusers are to be believed, this is at least the sixth appearance made by Bush 41’s good friend, “David Cop-a-feel.”

But it’s the first cameo he’s made involving someone underaged.

“As soon as the picture was being snapped on the one-two-three he dropped his hands from my waist down to my buttocks and gave it a nice, ripe squeeze, which would account for the fact that in the photograph my mouth is hanging wide open,” [Roslyn] Corrigan said. “I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, what just happened?’”

Her mother, Sari, said Corrigan told her about the encounter as soon as Bush stepped away…

Within the next few days, Corrigan told her childhood friend Chelsea Wellman about the alleged groping as well, Wellman told TIME on Oct. 27.

Christopher Yarbrough, who was married to Corrigan from 2010 until their divorce the following year, said on Oct. 27 he learned about the incident about a month after they started dating in 2005. One day, the two were going through scrapbooks at Sari’s house, he said, when they flipped to a page revealing the photo with Bush. He said that Corrigan then told him about the encounter with the former president.

All in all, Corrigan told seven friends and family about what happened, all of them before the first public accusation about Bush 41 grabbing women’s butts was made a few weeks ago. There’s another key difference between this accusation and that one: That one involved in incident in 2014, when Bush was 90 and already confined to a wheelchair. If you wanted to blame that on dementia or just a feeble old man availing himself of his feeble old man privileges to sneak a squeeze, you could. That’s harder to do with an incident in 2003. Bush was still elderly at the time at age 79, but he was out and about, not feeble and displaying no signs of dementia (publicly, at least). If he was sneaking a squeeze then — on a 16-year-old! — odds are it wasn’t the first time he did it to someone.

But Bush 41 is old news. What about the gropers who are still on Capitol Hill?

“In fact, there are two members of Congress, Republican and Democrat, right now who serve, who have been subject to review or have not been subject to review, but have engaged in sexual harassment,” [Dem Rep. Jackie] Speier said in her testimony before the House Administration Committee, which held a hearing on sexual harassment in Congress Tuesday morning…

Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.), a member on the committee, also said she had heard of a congressman who is currently serving who had exposed himself to a young female staffer. She did not know the identity of the congressman.

“This member asked a staffer to bring them over some materials to their residence. And a young staffer ― it was a young woman ― went there and was greeted with a member in a towel. It was a male, who then invited her in. At that point, he decided to expose himself,” Comstock said. “She left, and then she quit her job.”

According to CNN, there’s a “creep list” on the Hill of male lawmakers whom women warn each other to stay away from. It hasn’t been written down (yet) but it’s probably a matter of time given the similar list of alleged media-industry predators that began circulating after the Weinstein scandal broke. CNN claims it’s spoken to “more than 50 lawmakers, current and former Hill aides and political veterans who have worked in Congress,” all of whom were either harassed themselves or know someone who’s been harassed. The hot spot in the Capitol is apparently the elevators, where women know not to ride alone with certain congressmen. There are no names mentioned in the piece but there will be eventually. Hope the relevant Ethics Committees are prepared for Hurricane Weinstein to hit, because it’s coming.
