Sunday morning talking heads

It’s a foreign-policy kind of morning on the Sunday shows. The star guest: Nikki Haley, who warned China a few days ago at the UN that if it doesn’t tighten the screws on North Korea, the screws might be tightened on it. She’ll sit down with “Face the Nation” and “State of the Union” to update viewers about progress in diplomacy with Pyongyang or the lack thereof. Elsewhere, the camera-friendly wonder twins of interventionism, John McCain and Lindsey Graham, will be on to call for a tougher stance on North Korea, Russia, and pretty much every other belligerent power. McCain will follow Haley on “Face the Nation” while Graham is the lead guest on “Meet the Press.”

An added benefit of watching “Face the Nation” this morning: Ted Cruz is the third guest, scheduled to discuss his amendment to the GOP’s health-care bill that would allow insurers to offer plans that don’t comply with ObamaCare so long as they offer at least one plan that does. There’s an outside chance that Cruz’s amendment will satisfy both wings of the Senate GOP caucus and get the final bill to 50 votes, but the likelihood seems to have diminished over the last few days. Cruz has lately taken to encouraging/threatening full repeal if the party can’t agree on a replacement plan. He’ll be pressed to explain what that sort of uncertainty might do to the insurance industry if/when Congress remains paralyzed on forging a new system for years on end.

If none of that grabs you, Reince Priebus will be on “Fox News Sunday” to laugh at the fact that he just passed yet another media-created deadline for his supposed imminent firing. The full line-up is at the AP.
