Sunday morning talking heads

This week brings a rare respite from Russiagate (well, mostly) on the Sunday shows, with the usual news cycle having been overtaken by events. Today’s star guest: Bernie Sanders, one of whose admirers nearly massacred a dozen or so Republican congressmen on a baseball field in Virginia. He’ll be on “Face the Nation” and “State of the Union” this morning to address it. Credit to him for appearing, as he could have easily lied low under the circumstances. Let’s hope he’s grilled about the “climate of hate” accusations he threw at Republicans after the Gabby Giffords shooting in 2011. That had nothing to do with politics, but that didn’t stop Bernie from trying to score points off of it at the time.

The other big news this week is Trump’s decision to undo Obama’s Cuba policy. Marco Rubio, one of the catalysts for that shift, will be on “Meet the Press,” “Face the Nation,” and “State of the Union” to discuss it, as well as his unlikely friendship with the guy who used to call him “Little Marco.” And there is some Russiagate material on tap: Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow will appear on “Meet the Press,” “Face the Nation,” “State of the Union,” and “Fox News Sunday” to push back on the obstruction case against Trump that Bob Mueller is allegedly investigating. Sekulow made news last Sunday when he declined to rule out Trump eventually firing Mueller (while noting that he couldn’t imagine it happening). We’ll see if his opinion’s ripened since then, and whether deputy AG Rod Rosenstein might also be on the chopping block. The full line-up is at the AP.
