It’s funny watching this speech a day after rumors circulated that the White House was planning to make some sort of major legislative outreach to the Congressional Black Caucus. I … don’t get the sense that Waters will be part of that effort.

What’s her problem with Trump anyway? Thanks to pressure from the progressive base, Democrats in Congress are now duty bound to renounce him the way Catholics renounce Satan at a baptism, but Waters has been doing it with special relish. Last month she said of Trump and his cabinet, “This is a bunch of scumbags, that’s what they are, who are all organized around making money.” She skipped Trump’s address to Congress a few weeks later and insisted that Democrats should be pushing more aggressively for impeachment. A few weeks ago she went on MSNBC and said of the dubious Trump dossier, “We already know that the part about the coverage that they have on him, with sex actions, is supposed to be true. They have said that that’s absolutely true.” Er, according to whom? And her Twitter feed has been sprinkled intermittently with little bon mots like this:

If she keeps going at this rate, she’s going to either (a) have a breakdown before he reaches six months of his presidency or (b) become the Democratic nominee for president in 2020. Maybe both. A breakdown over Trump only proves how much you care!
