Colin Kaepernick's jersey now the top seller in NFL online store

I know what you’re thinking, but $99.99 is a lot of bread to spend on something just to burn it. Anyone who’s looking to torch some Kaepernick merch to protest his anthem boycott will end up with a ten-dollar knock-off shirsey. The people shopping in the NFL store are, I’m sure, making bona fide solidarity purchases.

This fall, show your support for social justice by proudly donning the number of an interception-prone second-stringer.

Kaepernick’s red Niners jersey is actually the No. 1-selling jersey at NFL Shop as of Tuesday afternoon, ahead of Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott. Kaepernick’s white Niners jersey is also a top seller, ranked 12th in sales…

On Wednesday, Kaepernick thanked fans for showing him their support:

“I want to thank everyone who has shown me love and support, it truly means a lot! I wasn’t expecting my jersey sales to jump to number one because of this, but it shows the people’s belief that we can achieve justice and equality for ALL! The only way I can repay you for the support is to return the favor by donating all the proceeds I receive from my jersey sales back into the communities! I believe in the people, and WE can be the change!”

Citing his jersey sales as evidence that “we can achieve justice and equality for ALL” is like citing the #BringBackOurGirls hashtag as proof that Twitter can stop terrorism. Kaepernick himself is a fan of radical chic in his fashion choices, though, which is what this is all about — virtue-signaling — so this must be a big day for him. If he never starts another game, he can sleep well at night knowing that celebrity leftists like Susan Sarandon regard him as a hero for The Cause, at least for the next 20 minutes.

Incidentally, if you’re a hockey player, you may want to think carefully about Kaepernick solidarity:

It is fair to say that Team USA hockey coach John Tortorella has earned a reputation for being outspoken, but it seems he expects his players to be anything but.

Asked what he would do if any of his players tried to copy Colin Kapernick’s national anthem protest, Tortorella was adamant.

He told ESPN: ‘If any of my players sit on the bench for the national anthem, they will sit there the rest of the game.’

Two other NFL players and women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe have boycotted the anthem recently to support Kaepernick. I wonder how many players would have to follow suit before irritated fans turned off the TV in a counter-protest. There’s probably no limit, right? Literally the entire league could turn their backs on the flag and football junkies would tune in, grumbling all the way.

Via TMZ, here’s Ted Cruz unloading on rich, spoiled athletes and the presidents who apologize for them.
