Confirmed: Megyn Kelly to interview Trump for May 17th special

Months and months of antagonism and “blood coming out of her wherever” and skipping a Fox debate and calling for a boycott of her show — all of it ultimately just a big hype machine for Kelly’s first primetime special on Fox Broadcasting.

Trump will sit for an in-depth interview on Kelly’s special, which airs on Fox on May 17, a source confirmed to Page Six…

The Fox News anchor secretly spent an hour with the Republican presidential candidate on April 13 at the Trump Tower, where they discussed him appearing with her on a TV special.

“Kelly requested a meeting with Mr. Trump, which took place at Trump Tower this morning . . . Kelly has acknowledged in recent interviews that Trump is a fascinating person to cover and has electrified the Republican base,” a Fox rep said in a statement at the time.

It’ll be tricky for Kelly to find the right tone. The sort of “10 most fascinating people” special she’s emulating here typically doesn’t call for hardball with the subjects, but everyone watching will know her history with Trump. If she turns this into a puffball personality profile, asking him what kind of tree he would want to be instead of quizzing him on, oh, let’s say, the tone of his campaign, she’ll never live it down. On the other hand, if she ambushes him and hits him too hard, Trump and his fans will screech that she tricked him into an opportunity for score-settling with the promise of a fair-and-balanced interview. How unprofessional!

Either way, you don’t need to wait for Kelly to watch a hard-hitting interview between Trump and a Fox News host. This one’s bound to be tough yet fair, right?

Cruz will be on during the same hour. It’s probably worth watching just to compare the tenor of the questions in the two segments.

Speaking of conservative talk-radio hosts repeating Trump talking points, in lieu of an exit question enjoy Rush Limbaugh predicting that Cruz winning on the second ballot in Cleveland “might make the Watts and Rodney Riots look like Romper Room when it was all over.” There’s a fine topic for Kelly’s interview. What will Trump do to discourage violence in case he doesn’t win the nomination?
