Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

The Rolling Stone trainwreck on Friday happened after the Sunday shows had booked most of their guests for the week, leaving the Eric Garner grand jury non-indictment — for the moment — the only real news on today’s brunch menu. “Meet the Press” and “Face the Nation” will devote most of their programs to mayors, top cops, and civil-rights activists, with NYPD Commissioner William Bratton set to sit down with the latter show. And New York Mayor Bill de Blasio will be the star guest on “This Week,” where he’ll be quizzed on why, if the Garner tragedy is the product of “centuries of racism,” he’s still kinda sorta agnostic on whether the grand jury made the right call.

If you’re not interested, “State of the Union” will interview George W. Bush about Jeb 2016, the state of the war on terror, and, yes, the Eric Garner non-indictment. (“Hard to understand,” Dubya told the now-departing Candy Crowley.) Expect plenty of boo-hooing about the demise of the New Republic during the Beltway-barnacle roundtables at the end of each show, too. If you need a tonic for that, try this Clive Crook piece. The full line-up is at the AP.
